Disabled 310,000 Pound Oversized Load Shuts Down Danville

DANVILLE, IN — Westbound US 36 was closed Monday afternoon near the Danville Police Department at College Hill after an oversized commercial vehicle hauling a load weighing more than 310,000 pounds became disabled in the roadway. According to the Danville Police Department, the semi suffered a mechanical failure involving a broken component, leaving it unable to move. Because of the size and weight of the load, the truck could not be removed using a standard tow truck, prompting the response of a specialized heavy duty towing and recovery company. Recovery crews arrived on scene during the afternoon and worked to develop a plan to move the semi and its load to a safe location off the roadway. Police said that once the truck was successfully relocated, US 36 would fully reopen to traffic. The incident was reported around 11:30 a.m. near the Target between Crossroads Way and City Center Way. As a precaution, businesses in the immediate area were closed while Plainfield Fire Department crews checked surrounding buildings for the presence of natural gas. Officials worked to ensure it was safe for employees and customers before businesses could reopen. Perry Road was shut down in both directions as emergency crews secured the scene. US-136 Closed East of Country Club Road After Hazmat Truck Rollover

US-136 was closed in both directions just east of Country Club Road after a semi truck carrying a gasoline load rolled over. Officials reported that the truck tipped over, causing one of its four fuel compartments to leak , spilling gasoline onto the roadway. In the crash, a utility pole was also damaged, and power lines were dragged down, creating additional hazards for emergency crews. Multiple fire departments responded, along with the Department of Health , to contain the gasoline spill and ensure public safety. Crews worked for several hours to clean up the spill, remove debris, and secure the damaged power lines. The highway remained closed until authorities deemed the roadway safe for travel. No injuries were reported. The cause of the rollover remains under investigation.

AVON 9:20pm - County Road 100S was closed in both directions between Raceway Road and Ronald Reagan Parkway after a reported pedestrian was struck . Emergency responders shut down the roadway while they handled the incident and conducted their investigation. Traffic was diverted away from the area during the response. UPDATE: 11:48pm  We have learned from information the Plainfield Police Department released that person struck passed away from their injuries. 

Fully Engulfed House Fire Forces Closure of IN-39 Near Belleville

 Emergency crews from across Hendricks County are responding to a fully engulfed house fire along IN-39 just south of Belleville . Firefighters arrived to find the residence heavily involved, prompting a large mutual aid response from multiple departments throughout Hendricks County. Additional units from Morgan County also responded to assist with firefighting operations due to the intensity of the blaze. Because of the active emergency scene, IN-39 has been completely closed in the area while crews continue fire suppression efforts. At this time, there has been no official word on injuries or the cause of the fire.

 All lanes of US-36 are completely blocked at Huron Drive in front of Rural King after a semi truck pulled down a power line across Rockville Road. According to initial reports, the power line was hanging approximately 10 feet above the highway when Avon Fire crews first arrived on scene. At some point after crews arrived, a semi truck drove through the area and struck the line, dragging it down and onto a responding fire engine. Traffic is stopped in both directions as emergency responders and utility crews work to secure the scene and make the area safe. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until the roadway can be reopened.
