Vehicle Goes Off I-74 Overpass, Lands on Railroad Tracks Near Raceway Road
Brownsburg, IN — Emergency crews responded to a serious crash Thursday afternoon after a vehicle went off the I-74 westbound overpass near Raceway Road and landed on the railroad tracks below.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. Firefighters from the Brownsburg, Avon, and Speedway Fire Departments responded to the scene along with the Indiana State Police.
Due to the vehicle's location on the railroad tracks, CSX temporarily halted train traffic while first responders conducted rescue operations and crews worked to safely recover the vehicle.
During the evening commute, traffic on I-74 westbound backed up to I-465 as the interstate was reduced to one lane while emergency personnel remained on scene.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the Indiana State Police take one person into custody. However, the reason for the detention has not been officially confirmed, and authorities have not released additional details regarding that aspect of the incident.
Recovery crews later used a heavy wrecker to lift the vehicle from the railroad tracks below the overpass and back onto the interstate.
As of publication, there has been no official update on the severity of any injuries sustained in the crash. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
