Indianapolis: 2 IMPD Officers Shot, Suspect Deceased

 Indianapolis, IN — Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were shot Wednesday night while responding to a disturbance on the city's east side. The suspected gunman was also shot during the incident and later died from his injuries.

According to IMPD, officers were dispatched around 10:25 p.m. to the 8000 block of East 37th Street for a reported disturbance. After arriving, officers encountered a man and a woman. During that encounter, the male suspect allegedly opened fire, striking two officers.

An officer returned fire, hitting the suspect. Both wounded officers were transported to Eskenazi Hospital in squad cars for treatment.

Initial scanner traffic indicated one officer had been shot in the right leg while the second officer suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. IMPD later confirmed both officers were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The suspect was also transported to a hospital after being shot by police. Authorities later confirmed the suspect died from the injuries sustained during the exchange of gunfire.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, and investigators are continuing to process the scene and gather evidence. IMPD is expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses.
