Charges Filed Against Suspect in Avon Standoff

Authorities have filed four felony charges against 18‑year‑old Marquis Devon Virgil following the standoff that occurred Monday on Bridgewater Drive in Avon. The incident prompted a large law‑enforcement response after Virgil reportedly claimed he was armed and later fired multiple shots from inside the residence.

According to investigators, several rounds struck an armored vehicle positioned outside the home, as well as nearby houses. No injuries were reported. A female inside the residence was able to exit safely while negotiators worked to stabilize the situation.

After several hours, Virgil attempted to flee the home and was taken into custody by deputies on scene.

Virgil is now charged with the following offenses:

• Attempted Murder (Level 1 Felony)

• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony)

• Criminal Recklessness (Level 5 Felony)

• Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony)
