BROWNSBURG, IN — The Brownsburg Town Council voted Monday to approve a $130,000 appropriation for a sound mitigation project at the Stephens Park pickleball courts, allowing construction of a new noise barrier to move forward despite widespread criticism from residents on social media. The approved funding will be used to construct a 10 foot sound barrier lined with Acoustiblok soundproofing material to help reduce noise for nearby residents. The overall project also includes an automated gate system to lock the courts after operating hours and the planting of Arrowwood viburnum shrubs, which are expected to provide an additional natural sound buffer as they mature. The proposal generated significant discussion online ahead of Monday's vote, with many residents criticizing the use of taxpayer funds for the project. Despite the online opposition, the Town Council approved the appropriation, allowing the sound mitigation project to proceed.
