Brownsburg Murder: Darrius Tolbert Sentenced to 55 Years

 BROWNSBURG, IN — More than two years after a deadly shooting at the Eagle Crossing neighborhood clubhouse, Darrius Tolbert has been sentenced to 55 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for the murder of 20-year-old Carlos Neri-Guzman.

The sentence was handed down Monday in Hendricks County following Tolbert's conviction earlier this month. A jury found him guilty of murder after a two-day trial stemming from the March 2024 shooting at the clubhouse parking lot near 56th Street and Eagle Crossing Boulevard.

According to evidence presented during the trial, Tolbert, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, and co-defendant Jeremy Allen Briscoe, who was 15, approached Neri-Guzman's vehicle during a prearranged meeting before both fired multiple shots into the vehicle. Prosecutors said forensic evidence determined Tolbert fired the bullet that struck Neri-Guzman in the chest.

After being shot, Neri-Guzman attempted to drive away but lost consciousness behind the wheel. His vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a nearby home, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. No one inside the home was injured.

During Monday's sentencing hearing, the court identified several aggravating factors, including that Tolbert instigated the shooting and that it occurred at a neighborhood park where children were present. Those factors contributed to the 55-year sentence imposed by the court.

Briscoe was previously convicted of murder in December 2024 and was sentenced to 45 years in prison in March 2025 for his role in the shooting. With Tolbert's sentencing now complete, both defendants have been convicted and sentenced in the Hendricks County homicide case.

The case was investigated by the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office, with prosecutors relying on surveillance video, witness statements, forensic evidence, and ballistic testing to identify the shooters and prove Tolbert fired the fatal shot.
