Avon Voters Approve Renewal of School Funding Referendum

Avon, Ind. — Voters have approved the renewal of Avon Community School Corporation’s operating referendum, ensuring continued funding for teachers, classroom support, and school safety.

According to unofficial results from the Hendricks County Clerk’s Office, about 65% of voters (4,995 in favor, 2,740 opposed) supported the renewal measure. The referendum extends the district’s operating levy at a lower rate of 33 cents per $100 of assessed value, down from the 2018 rate.

The renewal is expected to generate roughly $14.3 million per year, helping the district maintain smaller class sizes, support staff positions, and competitive pay for teachers. District officials say the 2018 referendum allowed Avon Schools to hire 142 additional teachers and 31 support staff, greatly improving student learning and classroom support.

Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith had campaigned against the measure, arguing it would add to property tax burdens, but Avon voters ultimately sided with district leaders who said the funding is vital for maintaining quality education and safety programs for the district’s 11,000 students.

With the measure now passed, Avon joins several other Indiana districts that renewed school funding referendums this election cycle.
