Former Avon Teacher Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

 Avon, IN — Former Avon choir and theater teacher Kayvon H. Emtiaz was sentenced today to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an investigation involving underage girls and Snapchat accounts.

Emtiaz, 30, pleaded guilty to vicarious sexual gratification, child solicitation and possession of child pornography. The court sentenced him to a total of six years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with the sentences ordered to run consecutively.

The investigation began in September 2024 after authorities received a cyber tip involving a Snapchat account that was allegedly downloading CP. Investigators obtained search warrants for two Snapchat accounts connected to Emtiaz.

According to court records, investigators found videos that appeared to have been recorded inside a school music classroom. Messages associated with the accounts also showed communications involving several 13 year old girls.

Emtiaz was interviewed by investigators on November 21, 2024. During the interview, he admitted to using both Snapchat accounts and communicating with underage girls. Investigators also searched his phone and located CP files in a hidden section of the device.

Emtiaz previously worked for Avon Community School Corporation from 2019 through 2022. He worked at White Oak Elementary, Avon Intermediate School West and Avon Middle School North before later continuing with the district as an extracurricular choir and theater instructor.

His extracurricular employment was terminated after the district was notified of his arrest, and his access to school property was revoked.

Six Year Prison Sentence

The court's sentencing order shows that Emtiaz received 1,825 days executed in the Indiana Department of Correction on the vicarious sexual gratification conviction. He received an additional 365 days executed for child solicitation, which was ordered to run consecutively.

The court also ordered Emtiaz to register as a sex offender for life.
