Inside Fire Ops 101: Hendricks County Leaders Experience Firefighter Training in Avon

Avon, IN — Community leaders, local officials, and members of the media had the opportunity to experience firsthand what firefighters face during emergencies during Fire Ops 101, an event hosted by the Hendricks County Professional Firefighters Local 4406 in partnership with the Avon Fire Department.

The event provided a hands-on and behind-the-scenes look at firefighting operations and the demanding training firefighters go through to protect the community. Participants rotated through several stations designed to demonstrate the tools, equipment, and teamwork required during emergency responses.

One of the most memorable parts of the event was a live fire demonstration inside a training burn building. Participants were able to put on full firefighter gear, enter the building with firefighters, and use a hose line to help extinguish a controlled fire. The experience allowed attendees to feel the heat, weight of the equipment, and coordination required while working inside a burning structure.

Firefighters also conducted a vehicle extrication demonstration, showing how crews use specialized hydraulic rescue tools to free victims trapped inside damaged vehicles following serious crashes. The demonstration highlighted how firefighters quickly stabilize vehicles and carefully remove doors, roofs, and other obstacles to safely reach patients.

In addition, crews provided EMT and emergency medical response demonstrations, showing how firefighters provide lifesaving medical care during emergencies. Firefighters explained how they assess patients, provide treatment, and work quickly during medical calls before patients are transported to the hospital.

Seeing these demonstrations up close highlighted the extensive training, teamwork, and preparation required for firefighters to respond effectively to a wide range of emergencies.

Events such as Fire Ops 101 are designed to give community leaders and the public a better understanding of the realities of firefighting. By experiencing the equipment, training, and challenges involved, attendees gain a deeper appreciation for the work firefighters perform every day to protect their communities.

Thank you to the firefighters and organizers who hosted the event and provided an inside look at the work they do to keep the community safe.
